CASE STUDY:

Embossed Nameplates

Watch Guard embossed nameplate printed by Marking Systems with a black background and white letters.

Let’s talk about nameplates. Oftentimes, a nameplate is one of the last items on a client’s to-do list for their products, but it can be among the most critical. A nameplate identifies your product and boosts your brand awareness in the process.

Oftentimes referred to as your “first impression” to end users, a nameplate is commonly the most recognizable component of your product. Custom color matching and tight tolerance cutting are critical, and we’ve got the technology and experience to do the job. We can also help your designers choose the best materials and functionality for your application.

We can create and design a variety of custom industrial nameplates, from screen printed to metallic and more. But one of the most dramatic (and we’re even going to go ahead and say ‘beautiful’) is an embossed nameplate.

You may not be familiar with the term, but we’re sure you’ve seen the style. Embossed nameplates feature raised logos or type, giving the nameplate almost a 3D feel. These can be fun, artistic and extremely eye-catching.

With embossed nameplate printing at Marking Systems, your products will stand out — literally. Embossed nameplates have custom-raised letters and images to create an awe-inspiring look for your product labels and branding.

How the process works

MSI uses both cold and heat methods to emboss overlays. Depending on your application and specifications, MSI can emboss the overlay up to 1.5-4 times the thickness of the material. MSI can emboss both polycarbonate and polyester in material thicknesses ranging from .005-.030.

Some particulars:

  • Base material: .008 Brushed Autotex Polyester
  • Laminate: N/A
  • Adhesive: 3M300LSE .005
  • Printing: Screen Printed 4 Colors – PMS877 Silver, Black, Orange and Yellow
  • Emboss: Approximately .020 Emboss
  • Cutting: Steel Rule
  • Tolerance: +-.010

And a word about those adhesives. That’s a critical part of the process. Hey, it’s got to stick in any type of conditions, right? That’s huge.

Our expertise in adhesives means you never have to worry about your nameplate falling off. We stock adhesives for hard-to-stick-to powder coat paint or plastic. Being a 3M Preferred Converter means MSI has a huge stock of 3M laminating adhesives such as 3M467MP, 468MP, 9471LE and 9472LE to name just a few.

Ask our experts which 3M adhesive is correct for your application.
