CHALLENGE
Transcore, a leading provider of transportation solutions, approached MSI with a unique printing challenge. They required a solution for direct, multi-color printing on plastic toll tag bezels that would withstand harsh outdoor conditions, including sun exposure, weather, and the rigors of vehicle use. Additionally, the printing needed to be produced efficiently and in high volumes to meet the demand for toll tags. Their previous method, pad printing, struggled with achieving consistent and vibrant colors, especially for multi-color designs.
HOW WE SOLVED IT
MSI leveraged its expertise in printing solutions to develop a tailored approach. Key strategies included:
- Specialized Printing Equipment: MSI invested in a new X2 Digital Printer, specifically designed for direct printing on materials like the Transcore toll tag bezels. This state-of-the-art printer excels at high-quality, multi-color printing on flat surfaces, making it ideal for the toll tag bezels. The X2 printer ensured durability and long-lasting print quality.
- Efficient Production Process: To streamline production, MSI created a custom jig to hold the parts together during the X2 UV digital printing process. This jig ensured precise alignment and efficient high-volume printing.
- Laser Etching Enhancement: To provide additional information and data on the bezels, MSI utilized our MOPA laser etching technology, further enhancing the product’s functionality.
RESULTS
MSI successfully met Transcore’s stringent requirements, we utilized specialized inks specifically formulated for automotive applications, ensuring they withstand harsh weather conditions, including prolonged sun exposure. Our printing process guaranteed consistent and vibrant colors across every single bezel, exceeding the previous printing limitations. We also met their high-volume needs by delivering 30,000 custom-printed toll tag bezels per week. To date, millions of these toll tags have been produced and are in use on toll roads across the United States where E-Z Pass is accepted. MSI’s solution not only satisfied Transcore’s needs but also demonstrated our expertise in handling complex printing projects and meeting demanding production schedules.
